Time to climb out of the basement

There’s just one more round of domestic competition before the European break takes place. Next week it will be like a breath of fresh air to discuss Heineken Cup rugby rather than Heineken Cup politics. But before that happens the Pro 12, Aviva Premiership and Top 14 play one more game, which for some clubs will be a game of considerable significance.

Starting & Stalling

It has been a weekend of mixed fortunes for the Irish provinces. Munster’s extended stay in Italy ended in disappointment with a ten point loss to Benneton Treviso. Having taken a bonus point victory away from Zebre and spent the remainder of the week in Italy building up to the Treviso game, the “Italian Job” was definitely on track.

Interesting Selections!

A weekend of Pro 12 fixtures that pit Zebre V Munster, Cardiff V Connacht, Leinster V Ospreys and Ulster V Glasgow could hardly be described as bumper weekend of rugby. It’s way too early in the season to get that carried away. But at the same time the second round of the competition has already thrown up some interesting points for discussion.

1st Round travails already telling tales…

Losing the first game of the season brings a little more pressure than losing most other regular season games. Every team wants a good start, something to build upon.
